How Low Can You Go, Diplo? (formsite.com)

Competition will be held September 26 at General Lee’s in Chinatown DTLA

———

Diplomático Rum is challenging LA bartenders to get low...Low-Impact that is.
We are looking for creative yet practical ways we can reduce the environmental impact of the cocktails we make everyday.

Cocktails require a lot of resources to create, from fresh water used for ice, electricity that helps keep fresh ingredients cold, fuel required to deliver orders to our bars, or the land needed to grow fresh citrus, there are many factors that contribute to the impact of a single drink. Those resources are precious and finite, and yet we continue to waste them.

Diplomático's Project Leftover initiative is actively helping bars and restaurants curb food waste and reduce local hunger. To date, Project Leftover has helped over 64 participating bars and restaurants divert more than 22,000 lbs of food from landfills through surplus food donation and localized composting efforts, avoiding more than 40 tons of CO2eq emissions, and saving 1.7 million gallons of fresh water!

We’re challenging you to consider the impact of your cocktail, the ingredients you use, and how you prepare them each and every day. This is NOT a “Zero-Waste” cocktail competition, though it is not a bad goal. The purpose of this challenge is to explore realistic and widely applicable solutions to how we make cocktails, and how to use and conserve our resources better. Your entry should answer the question: “How can we get bars and bartenders to think more consciously about waste, and make it relatively easy to incorporate in their day-to-day operations?”
